This article describes how to consolidate assessments in the Handin and Assess activity.
Consolidating an assessment involves combining multiple assessments to create a single feedback document and assessment form. This is usually done in what we call a 4-eye assessment.
When consolidating, you consolidate the following:
- Notes with feedback from the assessor
- The assessment form
- The given assessment
After consolidating, you may also have options to determine the visibility of documents to the student who submitted the work.
Consolidating notes
Consolidation begins by consolidating the notes provided on each assessment form. Not all documents can have notes. For more information about providing feedback via notes, click here.
For consolidation, it is especially important that you, as the consolidator, choose which notes are visible and which are hidden during the final assessment. You can do this with the "eye" icon next to each note, see below.
When you click the eye icon, the note in the document becomes transparent and the icon changes. These notes remain visible during the document's grading session, but after completion, they will not appear in the final documentation shared with the student.
You cannot edit the notes of other assessors during consolidation. If you were one of the assessors, you can still edit the notes you yourself created.
Consolidating the assessment form
On the right side of the screen, in the assessment form, you will see icons with two different colours and assessor initials for each question and comment. These icons indicate which assessor entered which value. You can then choose which assessment to use for consolidation.
If both assessors entered the same value, you do not need to do anything. If there are differences in the assessments, the first assessor value is entered by default, and you can select the other assessor's value using the "Choose" button.
By default, both texts are displayed in a feedback field, with the assessor's name above them. You can choose one by clicking "Choose" or adjust the feedback yourself. The back button above the feedback returns you to the feedback from both assessors.
In all situations, as the consolidator, you can also choose something different from what both assessors selected.
Consolidating the assessment
The assessment itself must also be consolidated. This can be done either in the activity before opening the assessment session, or in the bottom right corner of the assessment session.
When you open the dropdown for the assessment, you will see a list of possible assessments with the color and initials of both assessors next to their chosen assessment. You can choose one of these assessments, or a different one if necessary.
Determining the visibility of the final documents
Depending on your permissions, you can specify the visibility of final documents after completing the assessment. An administrator can configure the default for this, but you can still adjust it yourself if necessary. If so, after all final documents have been created, you'll see the button below next to the submitted documents:
Clicking this button will display a list of options as shown below:
Here you can choose whether or not assessment forms or feedback documents from individual assessors are visible to the student. Some checkboxes may be unavailable because the process configuration has disabled this. If this is the case, you'll receive a notification.
After adjusting the checkboxes, the visibility of these documents will immediately change for the student. You can also see whether a document is not visible in the completed activity by the invisible eye icon next to the document.
