This article describes how to provide feedback in the "Handin and Assess" activity.
Providing feedback during grading depends on the file type submitted. There are three possible outcomes:
- The file type is available for viewing in the browser and notes can be added to the file.
- The file type is available for viewing in the browser, but notes cannot be added to the file.
- The file type is not available for viewing in the browser.

In this situation, you immediately see the submitted file upon opening, and the following bar appears at the top of the screen:

If submitted documents of these types cannot be converted due to a problem in the file, the system reverts to option 1: the document is not available for viewing in the browser.
This grading method is the most comprehensive form of grading and feedback. We have a separate article with more information about this. You can find it by clicking the link below.

This can also happen if the submitted document cannot be viewed in OnStage due to an error in the file itself. In that case, you can sometimes resolve this by clicking the refresh button, as the system is still converting. However, if you only start grading some time after submitting, it's almost always a file problem.
